Welcome Home

We were able to meet Karly's companion sis Brown at the airport.  She had a 4 hour layover so we took her and her two friends to dinner before returning home.  It was so wonderful to have Karly home with us.
Her church welcome home will be Sunday April 17th at 12:30 pm  at the church located on the corner of vine street and Germania ave.   We will have refreshments at the house afterwards.  Anyone is welcome to attend.

Sorry the pictures are so giant!  I don't know how to fix that right now, and I have too much homework to take time to do so. :)

ToTally-Hassee!!!

I'll be driving to Tallahassee on Wednesday and flying home Thursday! It's amazing how quickly the time has flown by!!
This last week was a whirlwind! We taught 26 lessons!!!!! (: There was a girl from Crestview who came with us to do a mini mission, so we all took turns staying with Sis Brown in the apartment and teaching.... and Sis Brown is starting to do A LOT better now! SO she's been going out for a couple of lessons here and there (:
It seemed like every person  I taught this last week resembled someone I knew from home... Especially Dad and Austen! It was so interesting to teach them and to watch my companions just be silent since they weren't sure what to say- and then I'd just be blabbing... ha there were occasional "bashing" moments, but luckily the spirit was able to override my emotions and they were able to understand a little bit more about the importance of prophets, and that God truly loves us and won't lead us astray.

The women's broadcast was AMAZING!!! The spirit was soooooooo strong and our investigator, Judy, absolutely LOVED it. She's all about service, and the whole program was on serving others in whatever capacity we can, spiritually and temporally!!
It's been simply amazing to see the many tender mercies from the Lord every day this week! I am a bit nervous to return home, yet I know that the Lord will still be there to guide me (:

See you soon!!

HAPPY EASTER

This week was Crazy!! Sister Brown hurt her foot ): Like really bad..... so we have been balancing teaching lessons, dropping her off at members homes, and making sure she RICE on the daily! There have been so many blessings because of this, though (:
We will be having Misty's baptism on Wednesday, and we're really excited (: She has grown so much within these past 6 months. She still doesn't have all of the answers-- but she's okay with that (: Her faith has grown so much!!
Everyone is feeding us and whenever they've asked what I want I tell them anything with cilantro! (:

I'm just trying to use every second of this week! Wish me luck!!

Here are some photo's I found off of the other blogs, I also got the picture of her companion Sister Brown (remember how they said she got hurt pretty badly?)

The alligator picture was taken by her mission president on Destin beach.  I don't know where that is, but it sure makes me scared to go to a beach in Florida now!

The work is going crazy good! It's so interesting, last transfer all of the sisters in our zones were getting along super well, and we were having the HARDEST time finding/teaching. NOw this transfer the work is going really well but most of the sisters are struggling; we've had to do a lot of extra exchanges/ half hour phone calls/ etc to help boost everyone up. It has been a very fun and worthwhile experience, though (: This week we will be teaching at two zone conferences about the "Hallelujah" Easter initiative. It's a pretty good video. followhim.mormon.org

Sister Carter is just a DOLL. Seriously, the most PURE and KIND person I have EVER met. I might've said that last week... and it still stands true.

I LOVE LOVE being on a mission and in a trio(: I always forget the cool stories and things to share- but I always remember how great I feel. There's no better way to receive a true fullness of joy than serving!

It's Wendy here.  This is her response to me telling her that I don't want to go straight to the temple, I told her we could go later, but I wanted to come home first: " As long as I get to go to the temple the same day, I don't really care about anything else. "  So this is great news, i am happy that we have an agreement.  I can't wait to see her.

I found these pictures of Karly from other blogs for this week:

I miss the temple

Such a long week! We had a missionary meeting, and then we drove to Tallahassee for exchanges with the TCC campus sisters, and then drove back and just worked like crazy in Milton! (: We were able to see SO many people this week with an extra spiritual confirmation that it was who the Lord needed us to see at the exact right timing! I LOVED it. it's been a while since I've really felt like that (:
Faith was baptized! (: She was SOOOOO happy, too! Normally she is a super quiet girl, but she was loud and SASSY. I think she was just so excited to finally be baptized and confirmed! (: She's sooo cool. It wasn't until Sister Carter joined our companionship that Faith started opening up, though. Sis Carter is seriously the missing link to so many different scenarios here! Sis Brown and I love her so much (:
There never seems to be enough time to do everything! I love y'all!

p.s. I was wondering if on our way into town, if I could stop by the SLC temple and do initiatory. I really miss the temple a whole lot and want to be able to go sometime on the 31st

This is Wendy here:  My first thought to her p.s. is umm no?  I am dying to get her HOME.  It isn't like "town" is far away.  And won't she be tired and hungry?  I am going to see if she will come home for an hour or so first, then she can go to the busy slc temple.  She doesn't get in until 4:30 pm or after, I was hoping she might miss us more than a building?  I love my girl, so far she seems the same as before she left. :)  We will she how she feels after arriving at the airport.  3 weeks left!  ( I finished painting her furniture today.  It took 3 coats of paint and may need one more.  I hope she likes it 'cause I am tired.)  Pictures to come.

REMINDER

This is Wendy here.  Just a reminder to visit Karly's  companions blog here: http://sisterkaylinbrown.blogspot.com/  For more details on her happenings.

Also the missionary presidents blog: http://floridatallahasseemissionexperience.blogspot.com/  For some surprise pictures of Karly.

I am getting so excited for her to come home!!  I ordered her posters today for her homecoming.   I am not so sure what else I should do to get ready.  A co-worker suggested I buy a book called taking off the tag.  She also mentioned that some people do a Babylon basket  filled with some of the missionaries favorite things, and some new clothes that they may need.  I liked that idea.
Mom reminded me to tie yellow ribbons in the neighborhood.  That will be sweet.

I was always going to finish painting her furniture,  Randy isn't thrilled with the idea.  But I hope to take on that project and finish it here in a few weeks.  MARCH 31 st.

We will pick Karly up from the airport, she asked that we not have a party at the house that day, she plans on having a major melt down in her room.  But when we know when her welcome home speech will be we will invite everyone over to welcome her home!  With food of course.

Any other suggestions from you mom's who have done this before?  I still have full time work and part time school (we are at midterms now) so I will have to keep things simple, but I still want her to know how much we love  missed her!

Less than 4 weeks to go, this is getting real.

Fantastic week

I love being in a trio with Sis Carter and Brown (: We are always having a fun time, everything becomes a party! The tornado that came this past week was SO close to a lot of the sisters apartments, including ours... but we're all completely safe (: We were definitely protected. hahaha Sis Carter, Brown, and I had a very fun bonding experience as we sat in the bathtub with the couch cushions on top of us (the mattress wouldn't fit) and reading 3 Nephi 8 about the signs of Christ's death in the Americas. (: It was SOOO funnn.

Sophie is now in Chile ): But she's still super cute and doing well! She has a bunch of friends who are interested in listening to the missionaries now! SO COOL.
This morning I read these AMAZING talks from May 2004 conference ensign and I was just BLOWN away with how amazing the Atonement of Jesus Christ is. God loves us SOOOOOOOOOOO much.

and this talk was really good:

And a bunch more other good things... but basically I have a re-newed love for studies every morning (: I have been learning SO much from the spirit!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Tornado?

I have been so busy with work and school that I really don't catch the news.  I was shocked to hear that Karly was helping clean up the tornado so I did some internet surfing to try to find out what she was so blessed to miss.  The tornado was in Pensacola Florida which is in her mission area.

While I had a moment at work and while my internet was not blocked.  ( We are not suppose to have access to internet, and I only had it for maybe ten minutes) I was able to find something exciting.  Karly's mission presidents have a blog!  too bad I didn't know this sooner.  Here is the link: http://floridatallahasseemissionexperience.blogspot.com/2016/02/mission-leadership-council.html

There is a picture of her from Feb!  This really made my day.

Then thanks to a customer I found out the tornado was in Pensacola and I found this info.
Here is a news link and pictures of the tornado (I can't find the one with her in it)
https://weather.com/storms/severe/video/aerial-view-of-pensacola-florida-tornado-damage

Here is a post from the presidents blog from Feb 23rd : We have had another Tornado touch down in Pensacola, and another one traveling through the Mission right now. Our entire Mission area is under Tornado warning. All of our Missionaries are inside their apartments, and safe. We will continue to check in on them throughout the night, and will post with any new updates. We Pray for those who have already suffered as a result of the Tornado that touched down an hour ago. We know that we will have many opportunities to serve our friends and neighbors in the coming days.

Whatta week!

his is a happy/sad week! I got our third companion, Sister Carter! She's super adorable and I love her!!
The sad part... Sophie goes home on Thursday ):

Last week we went to the Naval Air museum, and it was AWESOME! (:
We went with Sophie and the Fannins (:

I really have loved serving my mission> there are so many amazing tender mercies Heavenly Father shares each and every day(:
We were able to find two new investigators yesterday just by walking around and going to doors that we felt impressed to knock on... One of them even used to meet with missionaries like 5 years ago! She let us come in and was super open to the Book of Mormon (: We're excited to teach her next week!
The other is a teenage girl who is Christian, but she doesn't believe in the bible.... so we are WAY pumped to tell her even more about the Restored gospel (:

OH! and this week we got to help clean up after a tornado! That was really neat. The people were so grateful! Which is a HUGE step, because the area we helped has been Anti-ed like CRAZY. We even made the news and they zoomed in on one of our Mormon.org shirts! (:

I love how the church is organized and that we're able to help EVERYONE.
This week was definitely one of the most jam packed of "Milton Miracles" for us missionaries (:

I wrote and told Karly about Austen's car accident.  Here is her reply to me: I can't go to the link since I'm not allowed to go on facebook, so i'll have to watch it when I get home.
I"m glad things are going well! (: I'm doing really well too! I have been able to really enjoy myself this past week. Do we have any family plans for general conference weekend? Or will it be pretty low key?

Valentine Weekend

Sophie's baptism was AWESOME!!! She is SOO SOO SOO happy now, and I am too (: whenever I'm with her I just can't help but smile! She has such a glow about herself! This week was just fantastic.
I'll be staying in Milton for another 6 weeks with Sis Brown and another sister, Sister Carter! (: It should be super fun! I love trios!
Today we're going to the aviation museum with Sophie and her cousins(:
We're mostly just working on trying to find new people to teach now, since a lot of the people we were teaching aren't interested anymore... or they are, but their spouse isn't.
Luckily missionary work is more fun than it is work (:

Great week

This week was great! (: Sis Brown 's seriously one of my best friends. I just adore her. She has helped me SO much to improve in so many ways- and all the while being loving and kind (:
This week Sophie will get baptized on Saturday! (: We're super super excited! She's absolutely the coolest! I don't have enough words to describe how awesome I think she is.
We committed the atheist/Jewish family to pray once a day this week (: And I know they're going to do it! So Sis Brown and I are just praying that they ALSO see a difference in their life because of it! They just really need to know that God does LOVE AND CARE about them.  Some of my favorite moments with them have simply been to testify that the reason Sis Brown and I being there is because God loves them. There's really nothing more to it. Bonnie believes us, but Gene is having a bit more of a tough time swallowing it. But I KNOW he can feel it... he just doesn't recognize where those feelings come from. You can see the confusion in his eyes, but also the peace he feels with it.

I love being a missionary! (: And I love that EVERYTHING I learn on my mission, I can take home with me!

Here's this really good talk for those who are curious as to how missionary work actually works (:

14- day challenge

Inline image 1
I saw this on lds.org and I LOVE IT. It's basically a little taste each day of being more like the Savior! (: I'm going to do it- and I'd invite you to try it also!

This week was really long! We didn't have our car from Monday to Friday, so we walked EVERYWHERE rain or shine (: haha and we had a lot of good laughs along the way.
We were teaching Bonnie (former Jew) and Gene (atheist) the Plan of Salvation yesterday and it was AWESOME. They really enjoyed it and they said "if they were Christian, this is what they would believe in." SO now that we've given them the basics, we're breaking it down and trying to help them build their own relationship with the Savior. It's SOOO sad though: Gene feels like God has NEVER answered his prayers... it just breaks my heart. I know that soon he'll be able to recognize God's hand in his life, though (:

Sis Brown and I are still getting along(: We find that we're getting more tired as the weeks go on, yet we somehow always have enough strength to do all that is needed.

hair cut

This week was a LONG week, but fun! We drove to Fairhope and Daphne Alabama, then I stayed in Pensacola for two days, and then Sis Brown and I were finally able to stay in Milton together. We had a fun time being with other sisters, but it can be exhausting.
Sophie is doing super well! (: We just love her, and she loves us! Her lessons are always super fantastic, the spirit is so strong and she just understands EVERYTHING. It's sooooooooo great!
I got my haircut-- 6 inches.. gone! And I regret it.. but luckily hair grows back (: And the person who cut my hair did a really good job, so I can't complain.
Life is just dandy. We won't have our car this week, so we'll be walking a lot... and it's supposed to be raining... haha so we'll be having some great bonding experiences!
Have a great week!

(: good things to come!

This week will be short because I'm using an iPad and I'm not used to it.
This week is super awesome. Sophie will be getting baptized on Feb 13(:  so..... We are very excited! It was her idea(: we had lots of random impressions to go to an area  of the ward that's kind of far away.... And so when we finally got there, we were able to find a family who wants to become active again, AND a whole other family who aren't even members of the church but they want to learn more!! Like, they talked to our bishop and our bishop called us to go teach them. So we will teach them on Sunday!
I am so so so excited to go to the temple, at church we had a special broadcast and they talked all about how our homes can be like the temple and about how to keep our families strong by centering our experiences on spiritual things (like going to the temple together, having deep talks, going on kid dates, etc)
I just love that families are forever and that we can do things to be happy NOW and that will carry on joy throug the eternities.

I love that living the gospel is something which will NEVER end (

It still doesn't seem real that it's 2016. Life continues to be sooo great with Sis Brown. This was easily the HARDEST week of my LIFE, but I'm over it now (: haha. Sis Brown and I had a really hard time remembering that we were loved, and that it's okay to not be okay. We just had a lot of things go wrong, and we were emotional... But after stake conference we have both been spiritually uplifted and I seriously don't even remember why we were so sad last week> i love the way the spirit works! (:

We taught Sophie this week and it was AWESOME!! She's sooooooo coool!!!! I can't believe that she's only 15. She has totally taken on the gospel as part of her life. She's planning on marrying a Return Missionary already, and she's thinking about going on a mission herself! I really really love her.

It is so interesting: Sis Brown and I used to be so focused on how many lessons we were teaching, and it was stressing us out. So instead we decided to only focus on the names, and write the names. Then at the end of the week we total up the numbers.... and now we reach our goals without even trying! We have been super happy tracking it this way (:

This past stake conference was on Sabbath Day observance and how to make it a delight... and I'm so excited to go home and be able to plan ahead what my Sundays will be like. It helped me realize that I can still do missionary work every Sunday! Just not to the same extreme as a mission has you do it.

One thing I've really learned from this mission: HOME AND VISITING TEACHING IS SOOOOOOOOO IMPORTANT. The drastic difference from functioning and non-functioning wards can be directly related to the percentage of home/visiting teaching. As we all do our part to fulfill our callings as brothers and sisters in the church, simply checking on the welfare of those in our church, the Lord is able to work THROUGH us to help members (and nonmembers) in our wards and stakes.

Laughing until we cry

(: Sis Brown and I are doing great! Transfer calls came and we're staying together in Milton! I really can't picture Milton without her, so I'm very grateful she's staying(:
My favorite experience of this week: Teaching Sofi! She's from Chile, staying with her cousin for a couple of months... and She's awesome! Her mom is an inactive member who decided to be Catholic. Now Sofi goes to a Catholic school, but she doesn't believe in the Catholic religion, and for a while she thought she didn't even believe in God... But she found out here that it wasn't she didn't believe in God, she didn't believe in what she was being taught about Him. She now knows that God is her LOVING HEAVENLY FATHER. HER BEST FRIEND! (: She willingly learns about everything. She's decided to read the Book of Mormon in 2.5 weeks! (: She wants to earn her Personal Progress award by March! And she just started this week! The crazy thing: She will REALLY AND TRULY DO IT. She's not just setting unrealistic  goals for herself, she's making plans and will actually accomplish the things she sets forth to do. She is an amazing woman with divine potential to accomplish great things!

We're really excited to work with her and a few other people in this area(: The spirit just continues to make us very happy as we testify to people that God loves them, and they can return to live back with Him!

Funny story... but not really:
Sis Brown and I were SOOOOO tired, we were heading down the stairs to the car and we realized we forgot something> So we ran and got it. then we were in the car... and we realized we forgot something else. So we got it. Then we drove a couple feet away..... and we realized we forgot SOMETHING ELSE... So we got it... and then we were back in the car and we THOUGHT we forgot something else and we were searching for a while, just to go back to the car and find it on the passenger seat..... And at this point we started laughing until we were crying.
